Choosing glasses or sunglasses is increasingly important, because it constitutes a significant investment and contributes to defining our style: we spend at least a few hundred euros to buy good lenses and a modern frame !

It is therefore normal that when we have to go to the optician to choose them, a thousand doubts assail us … First of all, glasses must reflect your personality, make you more beautiful and become a focal point of your way of being, as well as expressing your true personality.  Now let’s see together some advice for choosing the frame that enhances you:

  1. COLOR : the ideal would be to have done a color analysis first, which allows you to know exactly which colors illuminate your face. If this is not the case, an easy trick could be to evaluate the color based on the contrast of your natural colors; if you have light skin, eyes and hair, or on the contrary medium complexion, brown eyes and brown or dark hair, and therefore have a contrast between low and medium, choose a frame with a low contrast, with colors that are not excessively bright. For fair skin, pastel tones are perfect, while for brunettes, if you have a yellow/peach undertone, brown or tortoiseshell are great; if instead you are brunette but with skin tending towards pink or olive, you will be perfect with black, blue, a dark purple. If instead your natural colors between them present a strong contrast (you have light skin, and dark hair for example) choose more saturated and bright colors.
  2. THE SHAPE:  Do you have an angular face, with a defined jaw and cheekbones? Go for a soft, rounded or cat-eye frame that softens it. Do you have a chubby and round face? Try a frame with slightly rectangular lenses. Do you have a rather long face in height? Choose glasses that are large enough to break up the face and shorten it. And remember that the temples of the glasses can contribute to creating an optical illusion: the thicker they are, the more they elongate the features.
  3. SIZE : here I recommend you study your face in the mirror, perhaps taking a selfie (You will be more objective in evaluating yourself!). Do you have a rather large face, or large features? Full mouth, large eyes? Stick to the scale of your facial features, and wear a pair of glasses that are quite large. Do you have medium-sized features? Choose glasses of a similar size. If you have small facial features, choose a thin frame, with rather thin lenses. In essence, when choosing glasses, do so based on the scale and proportions of your face.
  4. DO YOU HAVE ONLY ONE PAIR OF GLASSES? OR DO YOU HAVE SEVERAL?  This is an important consideration to make, because if you only have one pair of glasses I recommend choosing a color that can easily be combined with many different looks and colors. On the contrary, if you have at least 2 or 3 different pairs, you will be able to range more and choose more particular colors or styling.
  5. YOUR STYLE : Are you a creative person who loves to be original and noticed? Then go for particular frames that do not go unnoticed! If instead you love elegance and refinement, adopt glasses with the same style, timeless and elegant. Do you have a sporty soul? Choose glasses based on practicality and with a rather simple styling. Are you a fashion-addict? Treat yourself to innovative and latest fashion frames. Let yourself be inspired by the different styles and before going to the optician get an idea of the different models , so as not to be caught unprepared…
  6. WHEN YOU WEAR THEM YOU MUST FEEL GOOD, AT COMFORT AND LOOK BEAUTIFUL : choose glasses that you instinctively love, and that make you feel like yourself! Trust your intuition and don’t let yourself be completely guided by what others tell you…you are the one who must wear them.
  7. TAKE SOME PICTURES OF YOURSELF WITH DIFFERENT FRAMES, AND LOOK AT THEM CAREFULLY : it will help you choose the pair that you are most convinced by, and that you consider most right and balanced for you, depending on your face and personality. Seeing yourself in photos allows you to see yourself more objectively: you will immediately realize what works, and what doesn’t. Look at them again even after leaving the optician’s shop, and don’t rush, inform the clerk without shyness that you need to choose calmly since it is an important purchase; look carefully at the photos of you with many frames, and do a careful analysis of which ones you like the most on you.
  8. TRY TO CREATE HARMONY BETWEEN YOUR GLASSES AND THE REST OF YOUR LOOK : choose a color of glasses that is in harmony with your outfit, if you want to be on the safe side choose neutral colored glasses (e.g. black, gray, brown, tortoiseshell, powder). If you love colored and whimsical glasses, be careful not to overdo it with other accessories: at this link you will find my advice on what they are, and how to use accessories . Remember to aim for a maximum of 1/2 particular accessories, and the rest must be more neutral and simple, so as not to weigh down your look! For example, if you choose colored glasses or a very particular shape, wear a simple and timeless bag, with shoes you can dare more since they are far from the face; or if you wear a very showy and eccentric necklace or earrings, limit yourself to choosing a pair of simpler and more neutral glasses, so as not to overload your outfit. It is therefore better to avoid the “Christmas tree” effect, with too many eccentric accessories that create confusion….

Buying glasses is a very personal thing and should be carefully considered, never choose in a hurry please… and if you want my advice on choosing glasses here you will find the link for the online facial analysis consultation, which also includes the choice of frame.
