A DIY hair mask is easy to make. Did you ever think that the perfect allies for soft, hydrated and shiny hair can be borrowed from your kitchen?

Whether you have dry, oily or damaged hair, you can do the right treatment from the comfort of your own home.  With the right DIY masks, you can give shine and hydration to your hair , even if it is oily.

In this article we give you some ideas on which masks to make, based on the type of hair you have.
In addition, we show you the benefits that olive oil can bring to our hair and which remedies to adopt for greasy hair.

The right mask for every hair type

Pampering our hair is a way to free ourselves from the stress accumulated during the day, for example with a nice DIY mask.
There are many natural recipes that can be experimented with and that we can make in a simple way. It is an almost zero-cost method that can bring several benefits.
In fact,  the right DIY hair mask can allow you to revitalize, moisturize and heal dry, greasy and even damaged hair.  Usually, in the pantry or in the refrigerator there is everything we need to prepare a DIY mask.

The use of natural ingredients is a panacea for our hair, especially if it is fragile, stressed by smog or damaged by the sun. It is also an excellent alternative to the use of low-quality products that you may find on the market.  Ingredients such as honey, coconut oil, banana and avocado nourish and moisturize the hair with delicacy and effectiveness.

Before starting to create the right DIY mask, you need to know the characteristics of your hair and its needs.
Based on this, you can choose natural ingredients that, if left on for the necessary time, are able to completely change the appearance of our hair. Remember that these treatments must be used as a pack, before the washing phase.

The best DIY mask for dry hair

If you have dry hair, you need to resort to the use of nourishing ingredients that can hydrate it. For example,  you can make a DIY mask with three tablespoons of olive oil and two of honey , which act directly on the structure of the hair.

Another  element that helps to deeply hydrate our hair is avocado , rich in vegetable oils that are emollient. To make a homemade mask, all you need is a ripe avocado, whose pulp must be mashed.
To it  , add plain yogurt, preferably whole, and honey .

Once all the ingredients are mixed, you get a lump-free compound that should be applied and distributed evenly over the entire hair, from the roots to the lengths. After 30 minutes of application, you can move on to shampooing, without forgetting to use conditioner too!

If your scalp is oily

If you have greasy hair, it is essential to apply homemade masks only on the lengths, without approaching the scalp, in order not to weigh it down further. In this case, for the scalp, it is recommended to use a specific and sebum-regulating product, with ingredients such as Piroctone Olamine, Birch or Nettle extract, and so on.

DIY Mask for Brittle and Thin Hair

If you have fragile and damaged hair, the most suitable ingredients are those with a high protein content, such as  eggs or yogurt, which can give greater volume to our hair and prevent breakage . After leaving a mixture made with egg, two tablespoons of honey and plain yogurt on for about 30 minutes, the hair is healthy and shiny.

If you have fine hair, which tends to break and get damaged more easily,  the right DIY mask can be made with a banana . To the fruit, previously cut and mashed, you need to add a teaspoon of almond oil. The mixture should be left on for about 30 minutes and then rinsed with plenty of water. Thanks to this treatment, which is cheap and can be done comfortably at home,  our hair is softer, stronger and shinier.

Olive oil hair mask

Since ancient times, vegetable oils have been used to satisfy a wide range of needs, from cosmetics to the world of medicine. In fact, oil, thanks to its emollient and healing properties, was used as a moisturizing lotion and to combat a series of diseases, such as intestinal ones. Its use is attested in Homeric works and was passed down to the Roman people. In Egyptian culture, it was used precisely for hair care.

Our hair is exposed to atmospheric agents, pollution and is subject to the inevitable aging process. These factors weaken its structure, making it fragile and losing its natural shine. Olive oil is rich in:

Vitamin A , the best nutrient for tissues

Vitamin E , which stimulates circulation in the scalp and is the main anti-aging substance.

Fatty acids , which promote hydration

Thanks to the combination of these elements, olive oil is an ingredient suitable for all hair types. In a single action it can strengthen, invigorate and nourish the hair . Especially if used as a mask, it improves its appearance and texture. It also makes the hair more manageable, since thanks to its emollient capacity, it becomes easier to comb.

Remember that it would be preferable to use extra virgin olive oil, even if it is a little more expensive. Compared to normal olive oil, it has a less strong smell and is characterized by a greater quantity of antioxidants and vitamins.

Remedies for oily hair

Our skin normally produces sebum, a viscous fluid composed of a mixture of lipids, which protects the hair from external agents. In some cases, it happens that the sebaceous glands, present in the hair bulbs, tend to produce more than necessary. In this way, the appearance of the hair is greasy.

It is essential to understand what causes the excess sebum production. There can be various factors, such as excessive sweating, environmental pollution, the frequency of washing and styling. Added to these are possible stress, hormonal imbalances and the intake of drugs or substances that stimulate its production. Furthermore, the use of products that are not appropriate for the type of our hair risks making our hair greasy and giving it an unwanted appearance: flat, heavy and without volume. Obviously, there are remedies for greasy hair. All you need to do is implement a few simple measures, which can also be economical and done comfortably at home.

Here are some tips for you:

If you need a shock treatment to treat excess sebum, the clay mask for greasy hair is an excellent remedy . The trace elements present in it, such as silver, copper, tin, mercury, iron and lead, bring precious beneficial properties to our hair.

The most commonly used type of clay is the green one, but remember that the white one, which comes in the form of a fine powder, is more suitable for sensitive skin. This type of remedy for greasy hair absorbs excess sebum, performing a purifying action. Furthermore, if you add a little apple cider vinegar to the clay, you will restore your hair’s natural splendor . Just leave the mixture, made up of 50 g of clay and a teaspoon of apple cider vinegar, to act for a maximum of 10/15 minutes. Remember to be careful and not to perform this type of treatment too often, to avoid the risk of making your hair too dry.

To purify the scalp from excess sebum, another remedy is to distribute dry bicarbonate along all the roots , leaving it to act for a couple of minutes, or add it, in small quantities directly to the shampoo. In this way, its purifying power can be increased.

We can consider ourselves lucky, because nature offers us many natural ingredients with which we can take care of our hair. We just need to open the pantry and create the treatment that best suits the needs of our hair.

As we have seen, there are many DIY masks that we can make, in a cheap and simple way. First of all, the one that uses the benefits of olive oil, even better if extra virgin. There is no shortage of remedies for greasy hair, but also for dry or damaged hair.
