The climate in Singapore is typical equatorial: almost always very hot and humid, with sudden and heavy rains.
The table below will give you a rough idea of how much it rains in this small city-state. During the days we were there, between November and December, the rains were frequent and sometimes persistent. But that doesn’t stop you from going out and seeing it properly. Just have an umbrella handy and hope that everything goes well!
Singapore’s climate is characterized by Monsoons, which to put it simply are the typical thunderstorms that hit Southeast Asia. In particular, Singapore’s climate is affected by two specific monsoons: one that comes from the northeast (between November and March) which makes Singapore one of the rainiest places in winter; one from the southwest (between June and September) which brings milder thunderstorms.
In Singapore’s climate, temperatures are almost constant all year round : in winter they fluctuate between 23° and 30°, in summer they reach peaks of 32°-35°.
Having made these considerations, if you want to know when to go to Singapore, the best period seems to be February , when theoretically there is less probability of finding rain.
When to go to Singapore in terms of costs
Singapore is a “stable” tourist destination all year round. Prices vary little and the only time there is a slight drop is when there are stronger storms (so during the winter). However, being a city where business never sleeps, there will hardly be periods dedicated exclusively to “holiday” tourism.
How to dress in Singapore?
Given the premises made about the climate of Singapore, if you ask yourself how to dress in Singapore the answer is: layered and light. Imagine more or less the same temperature that there is in Rome around May-June, which can give a clear idea of how to dress in Singapore.
A piece of advice we feel we should give you is to visit it equipped with a raincoat or rain cover (especially if you have a camera with you!), and shoes that won’t get your feet wet in the rain.
