The natural world around us is teeming with unexpected wonders. Some sites seem straight out of a dream, so breathtaking is their beauty. These places, often hidden from the crowds, offer a unique visual and sensory experience. Whether majestic mountains, tranquil lakes, or arid deserts, each landscape has a story to tell, a special charm that makes it unforgettable. Nature, in all its splendor, reveals itself to those who take the time to explore it.

Breathtaking natural sites that absolutely must be explored

The Earth is dotted with natural treasures that captivate the soul and delight the senses. Among these gems, some stand out for their exceptional character. A journey through these places is an invitation to contemplation and reflection, so brilliantly are the power and beauty of nature expressed there. From mountains to forests, via wild coastlines and desert plains, each destination offers an immersion in a different, yet equally enchanting, world.

One such magical place is the Dolomites mountain range in Italy. These rock formations, with their rugged contours and jagged peaks, are bathed in light that changes throughout the day, creating an ever-evolving tableau. The Dolomites are particularly spectacular at sunrise and sunset, when the rocks take on hues of pink and orange, offering a breathtaking panorama.

Hidden wonders in the deserts

Deserts, often perceived as desolate places, nevertheless harbor landscapes of raw and unparalleled beauty. One of the most impressive is the Namib Desert in Namibia. With its red sand dunes reaching dizzying heights, this desert offers a striking contrast between the warm tones of the sand and the intense blue of the sky. At the heart of the Namib lies Sossusvlei, a white clay pan surrounded by dunes, where trees that have been dead for centuries stand frozen in time. This landscape, both austere and captivating, is one of the most photographed in the world.

Another desert not to be missed is the White Desert in Egypt. This otherworldly place, with its wind-sculpted, eroded chalk formations, resembles a lunar landscape. These natural sculptures, which take on shapes as diverse as mushrooms and animals, are adorned with spectacular colors at dusk. The White Desert is a veritable open-air museum, where each formation tells a story thousands of years old.

Mysterious and enchanting forests

Forests offer another kind of natural beauty, where lush vegetation and ancient trees create a setting worthy of fairy tales. One of the most famous is Hoh Rain Forest, located in Washington State, USA. This temperate rainforest is covered in mosses and ferns, creating a mysterious and almost surreal atmosphere. The trees , with their immense trunks and lichen-covered branches, give the impression of being in a world where time has stood still.

In New Zealand, the Waipoua Forest is home to some of the oldest trees in the world, the Kauri. Among them is Tane Mahuta, the “Lord of the Forest,” a tree over 2,000 years old. This forest is a sacred place for the Māori, who see these trees as revered ancestors. The Waipoua Forest is a sanctuary of biodiversity, where every step transports you to another time, another era.

Wild coastlines and tranquil lakes

Coastlines and lakes add another dimension to the discovery of nature, offering landscapes where water and land meet to create breathtaking spectacles. The Cliffs of Moher in Ireland are a perfect example of this harmony between the elements. These towering cliffs, plunging into the Atlantic Ocean, offer a breathtaking view of the rugged Irish coastline. The waves , crashing against the rocky walls, add a dramatic touch to this magnificent natural scene.

In a completely different vein, Lake Baikal in Russia is a natural wonder waiting to be discovered. This lake, the deepest in the world, boasts incredible clarity, allowing visibility to depths of up to 40 meters in some places. In winter, its frozen surface transforms into a vast expanse of crystalline ice, creating a magical landscape. Lake Baikal is also home to unique wildlife, such as freshwater seals, which live exclusively in these waters.

Some other natural places not to be missed

For those who crave adventure and discovery, here is a list of some other natural places worth visiting:

Torres del Paine National Park, Chile : a landscape of mountains, glaciers and brilliant blue lakes.

The Faroe Islands, Denmark : landscapes of steep cliffs and green valleys, with a unique light.

The Great Barrier Reef, Australia : a vibrant marine ecosystem teeming with life, with corals in shimmering colours.

Zhangjiajie National Park, China : unique rock formations that inspired the setting of the film Avatar.

Iguazu Falls, Brazil/Argentina : a series of impressive waterfalls in the middle of a lush jungle.

Each natural site offers a unique experience, a chance to reconnect with the world around us. The diversity of landscapes, whether mountainous, desert, or coastal, testifies to the immeasurable richness and beauty of our planet. Discovering these places is more than just a getaway; it’s an adventure into the very heart of the Earth.

Today on the blog, we’re heading to the city of Kilkenny in Ireland. Located in the county of the same name, less than 2 hours southwest of Dublin, Kilkenny is an ancient medieval city full of charm.

Kilkenny is referred to as the marble city and it is also where Smithwick’s, the most drunk beer in Ireland was first made. We went to visit Kilkenny for a day as we live only 1 hour away by car. Without further ado, I present to you 5 things to do in Kilkenny.

1. Kilkenny Castle

The must-see in Kilkenny is definitely the castle which was originally built by the Normans in 1195. It is located in the heart of the city so you can’t miss it! The castle is surrounded by beautiful gardens, a park with a children’s play area and an artificial lake all added in the 19th century. We didn’t visit the inside but it was already something to see from the outside.

2. Kyteler’s Inn Pub

If you love Irish folklore, you’ll love going for a drink at Kyteler’s Inn. This pub is a must-see in the city known for being the home of the first woman to be convicted of witchcraft in Ireland: Alice Kyleter. It was in 1324 that Alice and her servant Petronella of Meath were accused.
Period decor and you can drink the famous local beer, Smithwick Irish Ale.

Mexico is a very popular destination, partly because of its dream beaches. Here are 6 that will definitely make you want to take a vacation…

1. Cabo San Lucas

Cabo San Lucas is located at the southern tip of Baja California. That’s why it’s so popular with Hollywood stars who come to relax there. We particularly like its beaches, its huge rocks and its breathtaking landscapes.

2. Tulum

Located in the southeast of Mexico, in the Yucatan Peninsula, Tulum offers heavenly beaches very close to the most important archaeological sites in the world. Its white sand beaches and lush vegetation make it a heavenly and unique place.

3. Manzanillo

The picturesque village of Manzanillo is a little-known destination for Quebec travelers. Located on the west coast of Mexico, it features magnificent beaches of black and golden volcanic sand bordered by royal blue waters. Its quiet beaches attract surfers, yoga enthusiasts and divers in particular.

4. Cancun

Every year, this destination welcomes millions of vacationers who come to have fun and party. The beaches of Cancun are therefore among the most popular in Mexico. One of them, called Playa Delfines, is one of the most famous beaches in all of Mexico.

5. Playa del Carmen

Playa del Carmen is one of the most touristic beaches in Mexico after Cancun. This trendy place offers a wide selection of hotels, shops, restaurants and bars. Playa del Carmen is very popular because of its bright white sand, warm and crystal clear waters, its Great Barrier Reef and its Mexican fiestas.

6. Isla Mujeres

Isla Mujeres, or “Island of Women,” is accessible by boat from Cancun. Visitors love its quiet location, sea turtles and beautiful beaches, especially Playa Norte, where the sand is fine and the water shallow.

Grab a notebook and pen , here you will find all the advice you need to organize your DIY trip to Burma! We have included all the information collected on our trip to this splendid land. We will see together when to go, how much it costs, how to get around and we will give you some advice on possible itineraries.

Myanmar has made us lose our minds. We are in love with its people, its valleys full of pagodas and caves with thousands of Buddhas. All you have to do is take notes, find out what to see in Burma , close your backpack and leave.

When to go to Burma

The best time to go to Burma is from mid-December to mid-February . The climate is dry and with very few clouds. Blue skies were a constant on our two trips in December and January.

Around Yangon and the sea it is pleasantly warm, while inland temperatures drop especially in the evening. In the area of Inle Lake, Kalaw and Pindaya, it is cold in the evening, so much so that we recommend a heavy jacket to protect yourself, while during the day you can easily walk around in short sleeves.

Here is the blue sky that has always accompanied us. If you can choose when to go to Burma we definitely recommend the Christmas holidays.

In August, Burma is the monsoon season , the rainiest period of the year. The entire coastal area is not recommended, where the rains are very heavy and there is a risk of cyclones. The areas of Inle Lake and Kalaw are also very rainy. Although it is not the best period, if you want to go in August we recommend that you focus on the central plains of Mandalay, Bagan and Monywa, where the climate is drier.

An additional reason to avoid the rainiest areas in August is that roads can be significantly damaged and create problems when traveling by land.

Tourist Visa

To travel to Burma, you must obtain a visa before entering the country. The tourist visa is valid for 90 days from the date of issue and allows you to travel to Myanmar for a maximum of 28 days within the 90 days of validity. It allows a single entry and is accepted both at the airport and at land borders (for a list of airports and borders where it is accepted, see the Myanmar Immigration website ).

The visa application is done online on the official website and is very simple. The cost is 50 dollars for the standard procedure (issued in 3 working days) and 56 dollars for the express procedure (issued in 24 hours).

Recommended Vaccinations

There are no mandatory vaccinations. For all travel we recommend contacting the International Vaccination Center of your local health authority for a free consultation. Contact them a couple of months in advance because some vaccines may require more than one booster, or may not be immediately available.

Safety

Safety in Burma will be one of the strong points of your DIY trip. The population is exceptional , available and always ready to help. It is common to be approached for the simple pleasure of conversation, out of curiosity, to practice English or even to take a selfie, without ulterior motives.

We have traveled backpacking in cities, villages, day and night, with night buses and trains and we absolutely feel like saying that it is a safe country , even for those traveling alone. Obviously it is always essential to apply the common sense indispensable for any trip and, given that unexpected events can happen everywhere, we recommend taking out travel insurance. Here you will find some advice for choosing the best travel insurance .

We crossed Burma on our own, its markets, its streets, it is truly a safe country.

A separate discussion must be made about the freedom of movement in some areas of Burma. In fact, there are areas of tension between the government and local ethnic groups or independence movements, where there can be clashes. These areas are not open to tourists, or require special authorizations and to be accompanied by guides. We are talking mainly about the border areas, while in the more touristy ones there are no problems.

The problem we have experienced is that it is not always easy to understand which areas are closed, because the situation is constantly changing and the information on the internet is not always up to date. To further complicate matters, it turns out that sometimes tourists are allowed into the cities, but not into the surrounding rural areas. We therefore recommend that you check the list of prohibited areas on the official website and to be safe, always ask on the spot .

For your safety, follow the directions and don’t be smart . For example, some tourists who have ventured on their own where a guide was mandatory and have discovered at their own expense that there are still uncleared mined areas.

Money in Burma: Currency, How to Withdraw, ATM and Credit Cards

The currency of Burma is the kyat (pronounced khat). Obtaining them in Italy before departure is very difficult, so you will need to withdraw or change on the spot.

ATMs . We had no particular problems withdrawing money. ATMs are numerous in the cities and can also be found in towns with a minimum of tourism. If you go to more remote areas, however, it is advisable to stock up on cash beforehand, or have some euros or dollars with you to change if you cannot find an ATM. Dollars can also be useful for paying for hotels, which often have prices in dollars. It is important to know that the Burmese bank applies a fixed fee of 5,000 kyat to each withdrawal and that the maximum amount that can be withdrawn is 300,000 kyat . Therefore, many small withdrawals are not recommended, better to have a few and close to the maximum. Furthermore, not all banks accept ATMs, we had to proceed by trial and error (CB Bank usually does not cause problems).

Changing cash . You can change euros upon arrival at the airport (usually not at a good rate), at official exchange offices in cities, at banks, or at unofficial exchanges. Find out the official rate of the day so you can search through the various options for the one that comes closest to it.

Credit card . It is often accepted, especially by hotels, although with an additional commission (3-4%). It is often possible to book and pay with Booking to bypass any problems. Remember that it is not recommended to withdraw money with a credit card, since banks usually apply much higher commissions than with ATMs.

Before leaving, remember to ask your bank if the ATM/card can be used in Burma, to enable withdrawals abroad, which are sometimes disabled for security reasons, and to find out what commissions apply. Furthermore, since there can always be a problem with an ATM (breakdown, out of cash, etc.), we recommend not waiting until you run out of cash to withdraw, but to anticipate the times a little and, if possible, to bring more than one ATM. You can find lots of advice on cards and ATMs when traveling abroad in this article of ours.

Internet and telephone

Wifi is available in almost all hotels and hostels, although the speed is not always good. You can buy a sim without any problems, with packages designed specifically for tourists (although not very cheap) and with poor coverage outside the cities. For example, our Telenor sim with 5 GB of internet cost 6500 kyat. 5 GB is not a lot, but it will be enough to consult maps and search for information during the day while waiting for a wifi. And once the data runs out it is still possible to top up.

How to dress

In every country it is essential to respect the culture and customs, even in terms of clothing. In Burma it is not usual to have bare legs , both for women and men, who often wear a longyi, a sort of long skirt, or long trousers. Even shirts that leave the shoulders uncovered or excessive necklines are not frequent. This clothing is mandatory to access temples.
So how to dress in Burma?

Long, light trousers (or skirts) (it is practically always hot during the day).

Short-sleeved shirts that aren’t too low-cut.

Quick-to-remove and put-on shoes : since it is common to visit many pagodas in one day where it is mandatory to enter barefoot, this will allow you not to waste hours tying your shoes.

Bring a sweatshirt /sweater in summer, or a heavy jacket in winter, for mountainous areas (e.g. around Inle Lake) where temperatures drop significantly in the evening.

How to get around Burma

Getting around Burma on your own is easy, especially among the most touristic destinations, whether you choose the plane, bus or train. The costs are also quite low , but this will vary a lot based on the means of transport and the class you choose. The only flaw? The roads . Super dusty and some under construction and winding (if you suffer from car sickness they are not the best).

Warning! Always carry several photocopies of your passport and visa because they can be requested at many checkpoints and remember that during the rainy season there could be problems with blocked and impassable roads. Always inform yourself beforehand.

Taxi, Grab and chauffeur-driven cars
To get around the larger cities, there are classic taxis available, but we recommend checking if it is possible to use Grab taxis because they are usually much cheaper. It is an online taxi service like Uber, where you set the starting and ending points, see the cost immediately, find the nearest driver and pay in cash. Everything is done via an app, very useful if you don’t know the language.

Be careful because you usually can’t use Grab in train stations, ferry terminals or airports, where taxis have reserved areas. You can give it a try, but the worst case scenario is that the driver will cancel the ride or ask you for another meeting point.

Grab is not suitable for visiting attractions outside the city, as there are few drivers outside the major centers. In these cases, it can be a good choice to rent a private car with a driver , which allows you to save time and guarantees maximum flexibility.

Getting around by bus
Undoubtedly the most widespread way to get around Burma. With buses you can get practically everywhere and are often the only way to reach some isolated areas.
They are generally faster than the train and being the usual means of transport for the Burmese they are also cheap . An example: bus Yangok/Kalaw 10h, about €10 per person.

Types range from minibuses, to large low-end buses without air conditioning, to VIP buses with air conditioning. The quality is quite good , with enough space, reclining seats and good cleanliness. Beware of the polar-level air conditioning: always bring a sweatshirt and scarf to cover up.

For short trips, especially between towns and the surrounding countryside, there are also small vans adapted to transport people with benches in the back. They are very cheap and easy to take: just stop them quickly when you see them.

On long journeys, night buses are very popular , practical for optimising time and also saving a night in a hotel. However, if you are a light sleeper, expect a sleepless night: we often had music at full volume for the entire journey, which, let’s say, does not help us sleep. This is also an experience, don’t you think?

Buses usually leave from the city terminal (the larger ones have more than one), which is a large square overlooked by the companies, consisting of a stand and a small spartan room where you can wait for departure. As soon as you arrive, you will be intercepted by someone who wants to help you. Obviously, he will take a tip from the company, but we recommend following him: he will take you directly to the right place. We also recommend booking the day before to ensure your seat and find out the departure time.

As an alternative to the do-it-yourself method, to book a ride you can ask the hotel if it offers this service or if it can refer you to an agency. This will save you from going to the terminal, which is usually far from the center.

Taking the Train
Traveling by train in Burma is a great way to get close to the locals , travel like them, and have some fantastic experiences . Travel times are longer than by bus and they are not as widespread, but we recommend including at least one section of it in your DIY trip.

There are three main lines , all starting from Yangon. The first one passes through Bago and the Golden Rock and then continues south. The others go north allowing you to reach Bagan, Mandalay, Lashio and the Inle Lake area.

The lines date back to the British colonial period, they have not been modernized and the trains are not among the most recent. This translates into long travel times and a fun jostling. Try it and believe it! The comfort is all in all good , especially from Yangon to Mandalay where the best trains are in service.

There are 3 classes, plus 2 sleeper classes:

Ordinary Class . This is the cheapest class, with assigned seats and wooden seats for two people, very acceptable for even long journeys. The comfort is not top, but the experience is truly worth trying: you will live the journey like the locals, you will make friends, they will ask you for selfies, you will eat from the street vendors who pass continuously. We have always traveled in this class, even on the night train from Yangon to Mandalay. We can’t say we slept much, but we certainly had fun. An idea of price: Yangon/Mandalay 18h €2.80 per person.

First Class . Identical to Ordinary, but with a cushion on the wooden seat. Those who chose it told us that it is not worth the price difference. Note that it is not available on all trains.

Upper Class . This is the most expensive class, with padded seats in the style of buses. On the main Yangon/Mandalay line it is quite comfortable and clean, while on the secondary lines the standard is lower. Yangon/Mandalay route 18h 6€.

Upper Class Sleeper regular . On night trains you can take a comfortable 2 or 4 bed sleeper. Pillows and sheets are provided, but we recommend you cover yourself well because the temperature drops a lot at night, especially in winter. Yangon/Mandalay route 18h 8€.

Upper Class Sleeper special . Only on some trains there is this special class where you will have a “private room” for 4 people with a private bathroom that takes up the entire width of the carriage. Maximum privacy, but it is not possible to have access to the other carriages.

Ordinary class on the train from Yangon to Mandalay: we spent the night on these very comfortable wooden benches, but it was a beautiful experience.

The Burmese railway company does not have a website where you can buy tickets and even booking at the station is done manually by writing the passengers on the registers and filling out the ticket by hand.
So how to buy train tickets in Burma? The option we prefer is the do-it-yourself one, that is, directly at the station and without intermediaries. We give you some useful advice

Buying tickets is very simple. Just go to the ticket office at the station, ask for the timetable and price for your destination (not all stations have English boards) and pay in Kyat.

Remember to bring your original passport, it will be requested.

You can only buy tickets for trains that stop at that station, not for other routes.

Reservations for ordinary class open the day before departure, while for upper class 3 days before. Seats in upper class (especially sleeper) are limited, so buy them as soon as possible, while in ordinary it is not a problem to buy them even on the same day.

In Yangon, tickets for trains departing on the same day are sold at the station, while to purchase them in advance you need to go to this booking office .

The other option is to go to agencies or sites like 12goasia . Remember that since there is no computer system to book trains in Burma, all you will do is send an order to these agencies, who will then go in person to buy the ticket as soon as they open for sales and will bring it to your hotel. Obviously in exchange for a small commission.

Ticket office at Kyaik Hto train station (town near Golden Rock).

Internal flights
It is a very popular means of transport for those who have only a few days available, especially the routes that connect Yangon to Mandalay and Bagan. In some cases it is also the only way to reach certain cities where it is forbidden for tourists to reach them by land.

In our travels we try to fly as little as possible , both because it is not the most ecological choice, and to gain more experience in the country that hosts us. We also found internal flights quite expensive for low-cost travellers (Yangon/Mandalay €70).

It is certainly the fastest option for long distances, but it is not guaranteed that it will save time for visits compared to taking a train or night bus, a lot depends on the time. For example, a flight in the middle of the day can still waste a lot of time to reach the airport with the right amount of time in advance.

Rent a scooter
Perfect choice to explore a location with maximum freedom and at a low price (6/10€). As mentioned above, tourists cannot move freely in all areas of Myanmar, so be well informed. For example, in Yangon it is forbidden to drive a scooter and in Bagan only electric ones are allowed, while we absolutely recommend it for exploring the things to see in Hpa-an .

Always check the condition of the scooter upon delivery, always wear a helmet and go slowly! Road conditions are often not great and can suddenly get worse.

How much does it cost to travel to Burma on your own?

Burma is a cheap country , especially if you travel on your own. As you know, on our one-way trip we had a budget of €10 per day per person and, unlike other countries, it was difficult to stick to it. This is because even though it is cheap, there are several things that can increase expenses. Let’s look at the costs in detail.

Internal flights . They are very expensive, from 70 to over 100€ for the Yangon/Mandalay route, another reason to avoid them.

Excursions and trekking . Surely the most important expenses in a trip to Burma after flights. As mentioned above, in some areas the guide is mandatory and a multi-day trek can cost 25/30 € per day per person. Very reasonable expense given that it includes guide, food and overnight stay, but high for our budget. It is important to select the activity that interests you the most.

Entrance fees to tourist and religious sites. Another expensive item compared to the local cost of living. Tickets for the Golden Rock and the Shwedagon Pagoda cost 10,000 kyat (about €6), while to enter some areas such as Bagan and Inle Lake you have to pay 25,000 kyat (about €16) and 12,500 kyat (€8) respectively. Luckily, the less touristy attractions cost much less. In fact, many pagodas are free and, being little known, are also almost deserted.

Sleeping . Always choosing hostels and guesthouses we spent from 4 to 8€ per person. Remember that in Myanmar it is not allowed to use Couchsurfing.

Eating . Absolutely the cheapest thing: you can eat easily for 0.5/1€ in local restaurants or street food.

Transport . These are also very cheap: the Yangon/Mandalay night train ranges from €2.80 to €8, while for buses we can roughly say an average of €1 per hour of travel.

In total, excluding the days we volunteered in Burma and considering that we didn’t take any internal flights or go trekking, we managed to stay within the budget of €10 per person per day.

Burma is not just a country to visit, but to live . With little time available we recommend a do-it-yourself itinerary that focuses on a few things, rather than seeing too much and badly. This can be an example.

A trip to heavenly beaches and a tropical climate could be the dream of many, but finding the time and the financial resources is not always easy! So sometimes it can be useful to choose to travel without going too far, perhaps staying in Europe, so as to speed up the times of the various journeys and have more time to enjoy the destination. If you are wondering where to go for a weekend in Europe, below we recommend 10 hot destinations that you can consider for your next trip!

Where to go for a weekend in Europe – London

This may seem obvious, but when we talk about where to go for a weekend in Europe, the first place on our list is the crazy and multi-ethnic London, one of the most visited cities in the world. We lived there for a year and we can only confirm how much it is worth visiting and discovering all its most beautiful corners.Don’t miss Piccadilly Circus, the Tower Bridge, Hyde Park . If you love shopping, don’t miss the Camden Town and Portobello markets, as well as the magnificent Harrods department store .

Many museums in London are free, so if you have time available don’t miss the British Museum or the National Gallery .

Top 10 Destinations in Europe – Paris

Paris is the city of love par excellence. Who hasn’t dreamed at least once of getting lost in the beautiful Avenue des Champs Elysées, admiring the Eiffel Tower , getting lost in the sunsets that reflect on the banks of the Seine? As far as we know, there is no specific reason why Paris is considered the city of love , probably it is the atmosphere that makes it so.

Amsterdam – Where to go for a weekend in Europe

Amsterdam is one of those cities that can be easily visited in a weekend, but that in a short time will amaze you, entertain you and make you return home with a whole new baggage inside you. They say that to discover Amsterdam better you should live it like a real citizen, so rent a bike and pedal!

You could easily visit it on foot, but cycling is part of Dutch culture, so what do you do? Take advantage of the opportunity to wander carefree along the streets that run alongside the waterways and cafes? Consider that cyclists have priority over pedestrians!

Barcelona – The beautiful capital of Catalonia

We rediscovered it recently, dedicating several days to explore its most artistic soul , and we couldn’t have any doubts about recommending it when talking about where to go for a weekend in Europe! Barcelona is one of those cities that shouldn’t be visited, but experienced first-hand.

Where to go for a weekend in Europe? – In Berlin

Germany has a difficult history behind it, and paradoxically this has only enriched the cultural and historical references of its cities. This year we have been able to rediscover places like Frankfurt , Stuttgart , Munich , but which city tells the story of Germany better than Berlin?

Today, Berlin attracts tourists from all over the world who come to visit the famous districts of Kreuzberg and Neuköll, the State Theatre, the Congress Palace and the Brandenburg Gate, which has become the symbol of the city. Compare hotel prices in Berlin here.

And Italy? What gems does it have to offer?

After this list of European cities it would be unfair to exclude the beautiful Italian cities! To answer the question where to go for a weekend in Europe we must necessarily mention some of the most beautiful and iconic Italian cities, which will be even easier to reach and will allow you to learn more about our own history and culture.

Rome – The Eternal City

The first city on the list is Rome, for a thousand reasons. The eternal city is so big and full of things to see that it is really difficult to understand what to visit in a few days.

Since we want to be helpful, after having visited it several times we can tell you how to optimize your time and not miss the most beautiful things.

Florence

Florence is another of those Italian pearls that leaves you speechless at every meter of road you walk, it has been defined as “an open-air museum” where history and culture meet in a perfect union.

Milan – Where to go for a weekend in Europe, or rather, in Italy

Milan might seem like an obvious answer, but surprisingly not everyone has visited it . Maybe many of you have passed through here on flight connections but never had the chance to really discover the city.Well, we know Milan very well having lived there for several years and we can assure you that it is worth visiting, doing it during a weekend would be perfect to extract the maximum of its dynamic spirit. Visit the Duomo and go up to the terraces to admire the view from up there, don’t miss the Castello Sforzesco and the Colonne di San Lorenzo , and if you can have an aperitif in the Navigli area.

Venice

La Serenissima, this is how we usually hear about Venice , is one of the most famous, beautiful and original Italian cities, visited by millions of tourists every year from all over the world. A treasure chest full of charm and culture, history and poetry.

Naples – One of the places to go for a weekend in Europe

Last but not least, Naples earns its place on the list of places to go for a weekend in Europe because it is simply extraordinary, and that is not rhetoric.

The English newspaper The Daily Telegraph has awarded the Toledo metro station the title of the most beautiful station in Europe , and that is just one of the things you should visit in this city. It also recently won an international contest organized by the architecture and design site Design Curial and Looking4, where the Garage Morelli was elected the most beautiful parking lot in the world .

Traveling is a unique experience in itself, it becomes even more so when you decide to share the moment with a special person! If you want to organize a vacation dedicated to love and unbridled romance and you are wondering which are the most romantic cities in Europe, we have created a list of 5 places that in our opinion will give you the perfect atmosphere!

Get inspired by the tips you’ll find below about the most romantic cities in Europe, we ourselves had the pleasure of visiting them during our recent road trip in Europe from Catania to North Cape! And even if we don’t indulge in amorous effusions on social media, we are two healthy carriers of romanticism!

In the wonderful medieval city you can see the famous Juliet’s balcony from Shakespeare’s novel, and even sleep in a wonderful hotel overlooking the courtyard of Juliet’s House, like this one !

In Verona you can also walk along the bridges overlooking the Adige River and admire the city from the panoramic terrace of Castel San Pietro! Verona is a city to be discovered and we can guarantee that it is even more beautiful as a couple!

Two cities of love in Belgium: Bruges and Ghent!

On our trip from Catania to North Cape we had the opportunity to visit, even for the first time, many cities, all particular and special in their own way. If we were asked which of these stand out for their romanticism, we would mention not one, but two cities in Belgium : Bruges and Ghent .

What is one of the most romantic cities in Europe? London!

In this list of the most romantic cities in Europe, it was our duty to include the beautiful and cosmopolitan city of London . Maybe because we lived there for a year and for us it represented a first step towards a radical change in our lives, but regardless of the bond we have developed with it, this city is truly romantic.

Just walk through one of its huge city parks , Hyde Park, or take a ride on the London Eye, the London Ferris wheel ! There are so many things to see in this city, and during your stay you could also take a trip outside London to admire other beautiful places in the surrounding area together with your partner!

If you want to book flight tickets and better routes independently, we recommend using Skyscanner, which will greatly simplify planning your trip (and will help you contain your budget since it lets you find the most advantageous combination in 4 clicks).

What if we told you that Amsterdam is, in our opinion, one of the most romantic cities in Europe?

Contrary to what you might think, Amsterdam is one of the cities that has struck us the most, for many reasons. For its colorful houses , its green parks , the hundreds of bicycles whizzing by, the romantic dinners on its canals and its unmistakable style!

Even if you have never thought of Amsterdam as one of the most romantic cities in Europe, we can assure you that it is completely misunderstood ! Take a boat tour on the canals admiring the city from a different perspective. Consider the possibility of giving a candlelight dinner on the canals to your sweetheart ! You will see what a beautiful experience!

While you are here, you could take a trip to the beautiful windmills with your partner. If the time is right, you could also discover the long expanses of colorful tulips!

Elegant Edinburgh between magic, medieval castles and romance!

Among the most romantic cities in Europe that we have had the pleasure of visiting is elegant Edinburgh . A place separated by time where culture and charm walk hand in hand.

We know, if you travel often it is very likely that you have found yourself in this complex scenario; so what can you do on Airbnb if the host cancels the reservation?

When planning a trip, one of the most delicate parts is undoubtedly the search for accommodation. Finding practical and convenient solutions, locations located in strategic positions, managing to find the last minute offer, is a bit like becoming an expert detective. If at the last minute the booking fails , after all the research, it is normal that they turn you away .

What happens if my booking is cancelled? Can I protect myself? Will I get my money back? Can I rebook straight away? Here are some essential things to know!

Everything seemed ok, then the reservation is cancelled…but the money has already been taken!

Let’s start with the basics: your money is safe ! On Airbnb, if the host cancels or declines the reservation, even if the money is initially deducted from your account, it does not mean that you have paid for nothing.

So what happens? When you make your reservation, Airbnb will take your money and hold it ‘ frozen ‘ until the host confirms. If the host doesn’t accept the reservation or is unable to host you for the dates you selected, you’ll get your money back within a couple of days.

Why does the host cancel the booking if the dates appear available in my search?

This is one of the most frequently asked questions: ‘why, if I found the perfect accommodation at the most convenient price, I received a message telling me that it is not possible to stay on those dates?’

Well, there could be many reasons, let’s take for example some of the most frequent cases. First of all, it is good to know that on Airbnb there are hosts and superhosts ; let’s find out together what this means.

The superhost is a user who has received many positive reviews thanks to the services offered, the title is in fact earned by excelling in various factors such as professionalism, kindness, cleanliness, punctuality;

Hosts are all users present within the platform who make their accommodations available .

On airbnb if the host cancels the reservation it could be a problem related (also) to inexperience.

In fact, many times novice hosts try to make their way into the portal by offering really advantageous deals. But sometimes it can happen that they are distracted and do not respond to messages from new guests !

In some cases, for example, you might book and after a few days receive a message from Airbnb saying ‘the host has not responded to your request, but we are here to help’. Your booking would then be cancelled and your money returned. From experience, we can tell you that customer service is effective, it has even resolved absurd disputes for us.

And what happens with the crafty hosts?

Here is another example of what can happen if the host cancels the reservation on airbnb. Airbnb is a very serious and professional portal and its policy protects its customers in every way. However, this does not mean that you cannot run into the crook of the moment!

The booking is being processed, the dates are available, the travel solutions seem perfect but … after a few hours we receive a message from the host ‘Dear customer, unfortunately for those dates, the house is busy ‘.

Of course, it may have escaped the host’s attention to marking a previous reservation, or… it could be that some owners, in addition to relying on airbnb, also place ads or rent their homes privately, something that technically shouldn’t be done .

In fact, when the money is withdrawn, the waiting times for the refund can vary from 24 hours to 15 days, creating an inconvenience for the traveler who wants to find an alternative solution. In this case, you can report the problem to Airbnb , which will take action to protect its community. And we have experienced it several times on our skin.

Another scenario: the trip is confirmed, we are already leaving and at the last minute the host cancels the reservation

This is the worst scenario you can imagine on Airbnb if the host cancels the reservation: being left without accommodation while you are already traveling. Since it is a concrete damage for the traveler, Airbnb uses very precise and severe procedures on this type of behavior.

First of all, cancellation is tolerated as long as the host demonstrates that it occurred for reasons of the utmost seriousness, such as health reasons or sudden bereavement .

If the host shows professional negligence , in addition to the now well-known refund, he will automatically be penalized by Airbnb , and from there it will be hard to make his way again among the many hosts on the portal. Traveling is something serious, it’s not to be joked about. And we know it well!

Airbnb remains a very convenient method for finding accommodation during your adventures. We have used it ourselves on numerous occasions and to this day it is still among our first searches when the new trip approaches.

The idea of booking accommodations with few or no reviews can be intimidating. We recommend that you take the plunge every now and then, both to find interesting locations at affordable prices. And to reward the ‘younger’ users and perhaps have a new experience at the same time.

How do you know when you need a policy that covers you in case of unexpected events and when you don’t?

If there is one thing that all our explorations have in common, absolutely all of them, it is travel insurance, as we never travel without it . Why? We will explain it to you below, together with a practical overview that will also help you in your evaluation.

This is the reality we rely on , and below we explain not only why we chose it but also how to navigate between:

temporary insurance ;

annual insurance ;

long stay insurance ;

cancellation insurance ;

covid insurance ;

Travel Insurance? Is It Really Helpful?

In our opinion the issue is very simple, precisely because the journey represents the moment of exploration, relaxation, freedom and lightheartedness in its purest form, not having insurance coverage could be a total contradiction .

Being covered for difficulties and unforeseen events by a valid travel insurance is often the key to traveling more peacefully . Obviously we always hope that everything goes well, especially while we try to enjoy a well-deserved vacation, but you know, life is a continuous surprise and among all the beautiful ones sometimes even the less pleasant ones are hidden.

And not having someone behind you, depending on the country you are in, can be a real headache. Medicine works differently in each country and the costs can also be unpredictable ; from the most trivial things – like removing a thorn gained on a nature trail – to the most serious things, you could find yourself not only in the difficulty of not knowing where to go, of having to communicate a problem in a language that is not your own, as well as making unexpected and rather unpleasant expenses .

After all, nowadays insurance policies are becoming increasingly cheaper and more comprehensive, and below we will also tell you about the one we use on our trips just to give you a strictly personal point of view.

“How do I know which travel insurance is right for me?”

If you find yourself in the “jungle” of offers that can be found online (and offline) in the panorama of travel insurance, don’t worry, we have been there too and have signed several with the most varied companies, from the most renowned to the lesser known.

So how do you figure out which one is best for your needs? Is it just a question of price ? Is it wise to blindly choose the cheapest one ?

The answer in this case is NO: do not go for the cheapest one just because it costs less, perhaps because the price is lower than others the coverage will also be more limited than what other companies offer.

“ What if I choose the most expensive one? Aren’t I guaranteed to have everything included and not have to worry about anything? ” Again, NO, just because you pay more doesn’t mean you get more.

The only real way to understand which travel insurance is best suited to your needs is to carefully look at the policy’s technical sheet , what it includes and what the maximum limits are.

Because we understand that evaluating without knowing where to look can be stressful, below we help you understand what matters most and the differences between the various policies.

Be careful, you can’t see it well in the photo but there was no void underneath : being insured doesn’t mean you can risk your life with impunity Travel responsibly!

What travel insurance parameters should you look at when choosing?

First of all, to understand which policy is best for you, you need to understand how long you are away and where you are going : the destination can make a difference as some countries have their own health regulations , and if you are staying longer there are coverages that could help you save money by having the most suitable protection.

In fact, the policies are divided into:

temporary insurance , suitable for pleasure, study or work trips;

annual travel insurance , up to 60 days each, taken in one year;

long-term insurance , valid up to 90 days, easily renewable even from abroad;

cancellation insurance ;

When and which temporary insurance to choose

Are you planning a weekend in a European city ? Do you want to go on a 15-day road trip to the States? Do you dream of taking a trip to the most beautiful islands in Indonesia ? In all these cases, what you need is temporary travel insurance , i.e. a policy that covers only the trip for which you sign it.

What does a policy of this type include?

medical expenses (including, for example, emergency dental expenses);

pharmaceutical expenses

expenses for treatment upon return

medical transport and repatriation

movement of a family member or partner

Legal assistance

Civil Liability, for physical or material damages that you involuntarily cause to third parties

In this type of policy you can also optionally choose to add:

Baggage Coverage

delays and loss of transport-related services

Trip cancellation and interruption

the coverage on the electronic equipment

specific coverage for adventure sports

Additional compensation for injury

the cancellation of the franchise

Furthermore, with Heymondo for example, the company we rely on, you have a free assistance call and incident management service active 24/7 via the smartphone app, very convenient for helping you deal with any potential problem that may arise, as well as the possibility of managing complaints directly from your phone and having the policy documents and contact details always at hand.

When to go to Singapore – Have you always been fascinated by oriental cities? Is Singapore at the top of your list of places to visit ? Let’s try to understand together when to go to Singapore , what is the best time to visit it and other information that can help.

When to go to Singapore?

Singapore is an independent state of Malaysia , a bit like San Marino here in Italy. Even though it is “small”, it has over 5 million inhabitants, to which must be added the 17 million tourists who visit this splendid city every year. Singapore is a city with many different cultures: you can find Muslims, Buddhists and Christians, but all happy to live together and without religious friction. Did you know that it is one of the cities with the least crime in the world?

However, when talking about when to go to Singapore you will necessarily have to consider the climate with its respective seasons.

The climate in Singapore

The climate in Singapore is typical equatorial: almost always very hot and humid, with sudden and heavy rains.

The table below will give you a rough idea of how much it rains in this small city-state. During the days we were there, between November and December, the rains were frequent and sometimes persistent. But that doesn’t stop you from going out and seeing it properly. Just have an umbrella handy and hope that everything goes well!

Singapore’s climate is characterized by Monsoons, which to put it simply are the typical thunderstorms that hit Southeast Asia. In particular, Singapore’s climate is affected by two specific monsoons: one that comes from the northeast (between November and March) which makes Singapore one of the rainiest places in winter; one from the southwest (between June and September) which brings milder thunderstorms.

In Singapore’s climate, temperatures are almost constant all year round : in winter they fluctuate between 23° and 30°, in summer they reach peaks of 32°-35°.

Having made these considerations, if you want to know when to go to Singapore, the best period seems to be February , when theoretically there is less probability of finding rain.

When to go to Singapore in terms of costs

Singapore is a “stable” tourist destination all year round. Prices vary little and the only time there is a slight drop is when there are stronger storms (so during the winter). However, being a city where business never sleeps, there will hardly be periods dedicated exclusively to “holiday” tourism.

How to dress in Singapore?

Given the premises made about the climate of Singapore, if you ask yourself how to dress in Singapore the answer is: layered and light. Imagine more or less the same temperature that there is in Rome around May-June, which can give a clear idea of how to dress in Singapore.

A piece of advice we feel we should give you is to visit it equipped with a raincoat or rain cover (especially if you have a camera with you!), and shoes that won’t get your feet wet in the rain.

This way, even if the weather isn’t exactly great, you’ll be able to be an undisturbed tourist!

We hope this helps you plan the perfect trip!

Good organization and good trip!

As far as we are concerned, no trip can be considered complete if you don’t discover the place through typical tastes , trying the local cuisine and immersing yourself in the place through the flavors. Do you agree?

That’s why, when planning your next vacation in the French capital, you absolutely must know what to eat in Paris before you go! Also because French cuisine, a bit like Italian cuisine, is known and appreciated all over the world; to be objective, there are many delicacies that we find on our tables every day that have been thought up and created by the expert hands of Parisian chefs.

A clear example could be the croissant , which every day brightens the breakfasts of millions of people all over the world, not only in Italy.

Here is a delicious list of what to eat in Paris to taste the best traditional dishes on your next trip between art and beauty.

By the way, if you are looking for ideas on what to see in the capital we have written a detailed article dedicated to the unmissable attractions of Paris , with advice and practical information.

Although, the most valid advice we can give you is always to activate, before leaving, a valid insurance coverage that will let you travel without worries, the unexpected unfortunately never warn! This is the solution we rely on , simple, transparent, economical.

What to eat in Paris: French delights for breakfast?

Breakfast is known to be the most important meal of the day , and the French know it well. When we talk about breakfast, in fact, we start with our imagination and we already see ourselves in the pâtisseries with windows full of sweets and sugar masterpieces worthy of a museum.

What to eat for breakfast in Paris to get off to a great start?

1. Croissant and Pain au chocolat

The various ‘ toppings ‘ of the croissant as you can imagine have been inserted in later versions of the typical French parcel; its original version was in fact strictly natural, which allows you to better appreciate all its fragrance and butteriness.

Its cousin Pan au chocolat is actually a more delicious alternative that contains layers (or drops) of dark chocolate; for true enthusiasts and for those who want to start off with an extra edge (and who aren’t afraid of rounder sides).

2. Macarons

You can’t go to Paris and not taste the famous macarons, little treasures of haute patisserie.

These are almond meringue shells filled with various butter creams, so good that one leads to another. Colorful and very sweet, they can be the right touch for breakfast or for a snack, or why not, even as a dessert after dinner.

3. The very famous French Crêpes

What to eat in Paris at any time of day or night? Regardless of our being good eaters , facing reality, any moment is good for a crepe . Don’t you think?

A symbol of French cuisine, the crêpe is naturally found in both sweet and savoury versions and can be eaten practically anywhere: bars, restaurants, kiosks, bistros, even literally in the middle of the street , as we did on our recent trip to Paris , part of our crazy car journey from Catania to the North Cape.

What to Eat in Paris: The Savoury Specialties of “French Cuisine”

The more you delve into French cuisine, the more you realize that butter is used (and often happily abused) in most dishes, as well as eggs , which are the main ingredient in many typical dishes. Let’s see in which dishes these two ingredients have crept in the most!

4. Croque Monsieur, a concentrate of goodness

Warning: this dish cannot be simply classified as a toast . The Croque Monsieur is a true institution in Paris, and it is a delicacy that you should try!

Bechamel, cheese and ham are the main ingredients of this hypercaloric sandwich, which turns into a Croque Madame if you add a fried egg on top! Scary good!

5. A simple Omelette..?

What to eat in Paris that is absolutely typical and completely basic? The omelette , obviously, prepared with only eggs , in full traditional style. It is closed like a wallet or rolled up with the addition of your favorite filling (usually ham and cheese to keep it simple, but you can always get creative), suitable for a substantial snack or a tasty and quick lunch.

We also found the omelette in typical Moroccan dishes (under French domination for a long time), although it was prepared in a more original and typical way.

7. The softness and substance of quiche lorraine

This dish is also simple yet very substantial, in fact quiche (pronounced kish ) is a savory pie with a shortcrust pastry crust and a filling of eggs , cheese and other ingredients.

Even in this case, chefs often go wild and nothing stops them from enriching it with carrots or courgettes, bacon, olives and every kind of goodness you can imagine.

4. What about the baguette?

Forget the bread present in our country, here we are talking about something different. The real French baguette in fact has an original shape as its consistency: crunchy on the outside and very soft on the inside, it must be tasted strictly fresh from the oven . In some bistros and typical trattorias they serve it still hot accompanied by various condiments, typical cheeses and jams . In short, better not to add anything else .

8. Chicken raised to its highest expression in Coq au Vin

One of the most refined dishes of Parisian cuisine? French stew!

Chicken, carrots, onions, mushrooms, flour and cognac are the ingredients that end up in the pot to boil for hours and hours, until the meat becomes tender and tasty with a hint of contamination from the red wine and black pepper used during the marinade. If you like chicken, you will want to eat a whole pot of this recipe!

9. A hot and tasty soupe à l’oignon (breath-proof)

What to eat in Paris if you’re sharing the trip with your better half? Onion soup , of course! Why is this dish perfect for lovers ? Because if he kisses you under the Eiffel Tower even after you’ve eaten an onion soup, he really loves you!!

Jokes aside, besides being a typical dish of the French tradition, among the oldest and tastiest, it is the proof that every dish , if treated in the right way, can become a concentration of goodness.

Breaking a lance in favor of the soup, you should know that it is prepared with a base of meat broth and accompanied by croutons . You will see that it will surprise you even if, like us, you do not get along very well with onions by nature.

10. The very famous Ratatouille

How could we not mention in our list of what to eat in Paris the famous recipe that also gave its name to one of the most popular cartoons among children (and even older ones) from all over the world?

Ratatouille, to be honest, is not originally from Paris but from Nice , it is a Provencal dish that includes a mix of stewed vegetables. In addition to being vegetarian, it is also tasty and healthy, so if you are going to Paris we recommend you give it a chance anyway.

We know, maybe you’re thinking that it’s a bit like eating pizza in Milan , but that doesn’t mean that Milan doesn’t have good pizza chefs , you just have to know how to find them.

Moreover, real chefs (the Parisian ones are no exception) know how to faithfully reproduce traditional recipes and, if you are lucky, contaminate them in the right way by adapting them to local specialties. Have we already mentioned that in our opinion, sitting at the table is a journey within a journey?

Are you visiting Paris in the near future?

Have you already visited the French capital? Have you had the chance to taste these extraordinary typical dishes? We hope we haven’t made you too hungry, but rather thirsty for travel!
